Student Membership

To be eligible for student membership, an applicant must be:

Enrolled in an accredited university, college, community college, or technical school
Taking at least two courses or their equivalent each term
Preparing for a career in technical communication

How to Apply

Non-students can apply online. Students cannot apply online because a faculty member's signature is required on the application form to qualify for a student membership. MSU students can download a printable application from www.stc.org.

To apply:

Complete the application form
Obtain a signature from an STC faculty member
Mail the application with a check or money order for the appropriate amount to the STC office:

Student member dues are $50 with no enrollment fee. Non-student dues are $140 ($125 plus $15 enrollment fee). SIGs are an additional $5 each. The membership dues are non-refundable and non-transferable, and must be renewed each year.

Membership Recognition

Individuals are admitted to the Society when the Society office validates their applications. The office sends a new member kit to new members, which includes the following information:

Who we are and what we do
Society-level special interest groups and enrollment form
Publications list and order form
Chapter contacts
Chapter listing and map
Certificate
Specialty gifts brochure and order form

Renewing STC Membership

Under the STC bylaws, the term of STC membership is from January 1 to December 31. New members who join on or after October 1 receive full credit for the following year. New members joining on or after July 1 (but before October 1) pay full dues for the remaining year (ending December 31). However, they receive a credit of 50 percent toward the following year's dues.

Individuals who have not renewed by the last day of February are automatically terminated.
