Glossary: Aspect ratio

The relationship of the frame's width to its height. To emphasize the contrast, each of the thumbnails below is two inches high; notice how the image becomes wider as the aspect ratio increases.

Frame 1: Aspect ratio 1.37 (1.33):1
(Though the standard aspect ratio for classical Hollywood cinema was
referred to as 1.33:1, it works out to 1.37:1 on most prints.)
